THE DISTRIBUTION OF GENETICAL, MORPHOLOGICAL AND
BEHAVIOURAL TRAITS AMONG THE PEOPLES OF INDIAN
REGION

For anyone with an interest in the subject of Human variation as applied to the Indian subcontinent this book should prove an invaluable source text, and the editors deserve congratulations on the successful completion of their major task. — ANNALS OF HUMAN BIOLOGY (U.K.)
The overall organization is user friendly. There is strict adherence to the listing of each and every division of each country, even when no statistics were given.— Reference (always clearly listed in the tables) follow each topic/chapter. That arrangement certainly facilitates bibliographic searching. This volume appears to be a comprehensive compilation of studies done (some unpublished) through a portion, of 1991. In general, the authors must be commended for their successful efforts in producing such an error free compilation. Most importantly, any compilation such as this must be judged primarily on the grounds of how applicable it will be for researchers and teachers in human biology. Can this volume serve in that capacity? I think it does fall into the category of earlier works, such as Mourant et al. (1976) The Distribution of Human Blood Groups and Other

Polymorphisms, and Roychoudhury and Nei (1988) Polymorphic Genes, World Distribution—For Human Biologists there would be few times when Bhasin et al. volume is needed, but it would be appreciated on those occasions. For some, those occasions are strung together closely enough to warrant a prompt purchase of the volume. — AMERICAN JOURNAL OF HUMAN BIOLOGY
—ZEITSCHRIFT FUR MORPHOLOGIE UND ANTHROPOLOGIE (Germany)
